A U.S.-based professional association for investment practitioners and educators. Established in 1990 by the merger of the Financial Analysts Federation (originally founded in 1947) and the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (founded in 1959), the AIMR is headquartered in Charlottesville, VA. Its Web site describes its mission as follows: To "serve its members and investors as a global leader in educating and examining investment managers and analysts and sustaining high standards of professional conduct." The AIMR’s international membership exceeded 50,000 in 2003. The association’s Financial Accounting Policy Committee contributes to debates on the development of *accounting standards, and it publishes on the AIMR Web site formal comments on the initiatives of organizations like the *Financial Accounting Standards Board.
