principal

principal
1. noun An individual who, in *agency theory, delegates responsibilities to an *agent. A principal can be remote from the actions of an agent in both physical terms (i.e., geographical distance) and intellectual terms (i.e., an inability to understand the complexity of an activity). 2. noun The base amount of a financial instrument on which *interest accrues. 3. adjective Main, or most important.
