Auditing Standards Board
ASB The external auditing standards-setter in the United States. A technical committee of the *American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the ASB’s standards take the form of *Statements on Auditing Standards (SAS). (It also issues Statements on Standards for Attestation Engagements, and Statements on Quality Control Standards.) The SAS are issued after public consultation and are binding on AICPA members who conduct external audits. In addition to promulgating standards in this way, the ASB also issues comments on and interpretations of SAS. See also *Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
