Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy
CIPFA A British professional *public sector accounting organization. Based in London, the CIPFA was incorporated as the Institute of Municipal Treasurers and Accountants in 1901, though it traces its origins to a predecessor organization founded in 1885. It adopted its present name in 1973. The CIPFA Web site states that the "quality of CIPFAs technical output has placed it at the forefront of commentators on public finance, accountancy and audit." CIPFA maintains an active publishing program, mainly on accounting and auditing in the public sector. The institute’s membership in 2003 was around 14,000, including students, and members carry the designatory letters CIPFA. Web site: www.cipfa.org.uk
